At the time of writing the Area has run two very successful teach-ins, which were taken by Justine Armstrong-Small and Mathew Lawrence respectively. Many of our members took the opportunity to benefit from their help and experience and the Area would like to extend their thanks to our teach-in instructors. These sessions are invaluable for young and new combinations or as an opportunity to blow the winter cobwebs away on more seasoned campaigners- four of our members more normally seen in the flat classes had a brief change of direction forming the area ‘showjumping team’ and joining the jumping lesson, they had a great time and Terry Hepple as course builder had plenty of exercise – thanks to Terry for his help!
Once more the weather is doing its best to hinder everyone’s plans and despite its best efforts the Area Winter show went ahead and enjoyed great support. Faye Heppelthwaite had a fantastic show and her hard work in establishing a new partnership with Pinewell Miranda was rewarded with wins in the novice M&M FR, Open M&M FR and Open M&M LR, before lifting the mini championship. On Hollybush Juliet (above left) she was 2nd in the Tiny Tots FR and 1st and champion in the Open FR – well done Faye!
Emma Holder was 2nd Novice and 1st Open Intermediate on new SHT Rhythm and Blues owned by her brother, Jack Holder. Vicky Fisher was 2nd in the Coloured Native Horse/Pony on Ridmor Joker and Lucy Barlow on Emily Whalley’s homebred, Prestwood Dolly Mixture, was 2nd in the Coloured Non Native section. Gemma Pallett scored a double in the WHP classes taking the M&M WHP championship on Waitwith Westwind and the Open WHP championship on Plasdavrene Mattys Mate.
Another young member who had a great show was Charlotte Hirzinger on Westlife II with a 2nd in the Training stakes, 2nd in the Nursery Stakes and reserve Mini WHP champion. Charlotte also won the Novice 133cm WHP – a fab achievement for a pair who have not long started jumping. The Novice 143cm WHP red rosette went to Shannon Mulhern on Cosley Sweet Sensation.
Maddison O’Neill had a win in the Open LR on Barkway Mimosa and Scarlett Evans was 2nd in the Open FR on Poppalbee Georgie Porgie in their first outing together.
Lily Donaldson enjoyed a winning debut with Ainthorpe Curtain Call in the Open SP class – this pony was previously owned by Sarah Ready and ridden by daughther Josephine, so it is lovely to see him returning to teach another young jockey the ropes.
